How old must I be to attend The Excel Center®?
Adults 18 and older who do not have their high school diploma are eligible to attend The Excel Center.
Does The Excel Center® offer a GED or diploma?
Through The Excel Center®, adult learners can earn a Virginia standard high school diploma.
How do I apply?
You can complete our online application or visit us to complete an in-person application at our Melrose Plaza location (2502 Melrose Ave. NW in Roanoke).
Can I apply even though school has already started?
You can apply at any time during the year – we have five terms each school year.
What if I can’t get my high school transcript?
The team at The Excel Center® will work with you to try to obtain your transcript from your high school. If that isn’t possible, we will walk you through a few assessments that will allow you to be placed in the proper course flow.
How much does it cost to attend The Excel Center®?
The Excel Center® is a free school for adult learners.
Will my classes be online or in person?
All classes through The Excel Center® are offered in person at our Melrose Plaza location (2502 Melrose Ave. NW in Roanoke).
What is the class size?
There are fewer than 25 students per class, allowing each student to receive focused learning.
What are the hours of The Excel Center®?
Classes at The Excel Center® run from 8:45 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.
Are there accommodations for ESL students?
All of our teachers are able to assist adult learners who are learning English while earning their high school diploma. We work with each learner at our school to create an individualized learning plan to help them reach proficiency in the English language while they complete their coursework.
How long will it take for me to receive my diploma?
Every adult learner has a plan that is unique and designed for them based on the credits they need to finish high school coursework.
Does The Excel Center® provide transportation?
Our career coaches work with our adult learners to provide transportation assistance.
Does The Excel Center® provide childcare?
The Excel Center® offers free on-site childcare for our enrolled learners. Additional information can be found at Child Watch.
Can I earn an industry certification and a high school diploma?
Yes! All of our adult learners complete coursework that can lead to earning industry-recognized certifications.
Can I take certification or college classes at The Excel Center® if I already have my high school diploma?
To take classes at The Excel Center®, you must be an adult learner working toward your high school diploma.
